Grivel
Grivel designs and manufactures precision mountain equipment, shaped for traction and refined through continuous iteration.
Clarity of movement and control in demanding alpine terrain.
Since 1818! Grivel began as a blacksmith’s workshop in Courmayeur, at the foot of the mountain. The first essential tool was the ice axe. Used by local guides, it became the foundation of alpinism. Refined in balance and geometry through use on steep terrain. In 1909, a chance meeting between British alpinist Oscar Eckenstein and Henri Grivel changed the course of mountaineering. The crampon was born. The mountain opened.
Precision met purpose, and traction was redefined.
