Polartec Alpha – Rab Paradox Pull-On
The Paradox Pull-On is a Rab top made of Polartec Alpha. Polartec Alpha is designed to be Active Insulation; think Down or Primaloft except really breathable and temperature regulating; no need to layer up and down all the time.
First off, the garment is light and packable. Second, it is very air porous with an open weave of fibres that trap warm air but allow air to move through the garment, so when you move it lets moisture and excess heat out and when you stop it traps more heat. This removes the need to constantly layer up and down when you stop, start moving and take a while to warm up, and then work hard creating excess heat and sweat.
The more your body moves, the more warm air and moisture you pump out. The insulating fibres are completely hydrophobic so the garment stays dry and warm but because they are weaved into an open grid, lots of air passes through allowing moisture and excess heat to escape.

Having used the Paradox for a year now I have discovered it really is a paradox; warm and light yet comfortable on the move. It is very wind porous and requires a wind or waterproof outer in very windy or wet conditions where it makes an excellent mid layer. The rest of the time it keeps you comfortable when ski touring, hill walking or even winter running.
There is a warm layer close to the skin but you can still feel air pass through. When you stop for a break, it’s just warm enough for comfort and when working hard it’s air porous enough for comfort. This is a great addition to the outdoor users arsenal, there is really nothing quite like it on the market, and if nothing else it removes the need for hill faffing with layers. For a warmer more wind resistant version, try the Rab Alpha Direct.
